The Dockside Deli by Galway Bay Seafoods has launched a new casual dining “Eat In” area at Galway’s Docks, serving fresh local seafood in an authentic setting.
Galway Bay Seafoods has been providing the people of Galway and beyond with quality seafood for more than 70 years through a family tradition of craft fishmongering. The launch of the new Eat-In Area is the next step in establishing The Dockside Deli as a must-visit seafood destination along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Noel Holland, owner of The Dockside Deli, said, “My father set up Galway Bay Seafoods in 1950, and though tradition is strong within the business we have always adapted and changed to keep ahead of the pace. This new evolution of the business is an extension of our commitment to develop a unique seafood destination in the heart of Galway city. We want to provide an authentic taste of The Docks for the people of Galway and beyond.”
The seafood hub’s unique location in Galway’s working docks is immersed in the traditions and culture of the local Galway fishing industry. Visitors can sit down in the newly-renovated Eat In area for a casual meal of quality fish and seafood, and pick up their fish for the week at the fresh fish counter on their way out. There is also plenty of free parking available which makes dropping by even easier.
The Dockside Deli’s in-house professional chef Dara O’Neill said, “This is such an exciting project and one I’m very proud to be a part of. With fresh fish and seafood coming straight off the fishing boats at The Docks into us to prepare and serve – you just can’t get fresher than that! Having fishermen, fishmongers and chefs working together in such close proximity, and for visitors to get to experience that entire seafood experience first hand, is something really unique.”
The Eat In menu include deli favourites such as Signature Seafood Chowder with Seaweed Bread; Line-Caught Salt & Paprika Squid with Smoked Garlic Mayo; and Beer Battered Fish of the Day with Homemade Twice-Cooked Chips and Homemade Chunky Tartare Sauce. For a seafood feast, visitors can indulge in a Seafood Platter featuring an assortment of freshly-caught fish and shellfish. Sides include fresh salads such as Connemara Seaweed Salad; Line-Caught Squid Salad and Picked Local Samphire.
The fish counter has an extensive selection of fresh, local, sustainably-caught fish and seafood, and the deli has an innovative selection of bespoke ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook seafood items, alongside a menu of hot daily specials that revolves around whatever comes in fresh on the day, which are available to eat in or take home to cook.
The opening hours are Monday to Wednesday, 9:00am-5:00pm, with extended opening hours for both the seafood counter and deli, as well as the Eat In area on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 8:00pm.
