Dublin, June 2025: This National Doughnut Day (Friday 6th June 2025), Krispy Kreme is reclaiming its title as the OG of the glazed doughnut.

Krispy Kreme® is challenging the nation to bring in their “Faux-G doughnuts” – the inferior imitations, the copy-cat doughnut-dupes, to any Krispy Kreme shop to be upgraded to a FREE Original Glazed™ doughnut. Even half-eaten doughnuts will be accepted, no questions asked. To further celebrate National Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme is turning up the heat in Dublin! On Friday, 6th June, the famous Hot Light returns to the Central Plaza shop – bringing back fresh, warm Original Glazed doughnuts made right on site.

Krispy Kreme’s team members, known as ‘Doughmeliers’, have been trained to be “arbiters of Original Glazed™ authenticity” sharing this information with customers in shops, a one-of-a-kind checklist identifying the unmistakable signs of a true Original Glazed™: that melt-in-the-mouth dough, that glorious glaze, and that iconic shape. Anything less? It’s a ‘Faux-G,’ plain and simple!

It has launched the amnesty after a survey of 2,000 adults* revealed 73 per cent of those who have bought ‘fake’ food and drink items were left disappointed. Of the 49 per cent who have bought a dupe, 79 per cent said it was ‘not the same’. In fact, 72 percent said they would pay more for an original product.

Get ready to drop the mic, the queen of rap Lady Leshurr has released her brand new single, Run This Glaze – a diss track, playfully calling out the imitators and emphasising that there’s only one brand with the Original Glazed™.

Guy Meakin, Krispy Kreme UK President, said:“They say imitation is the ultimate form of flattery, and we have seen many copies of our iconic doughnuts over the years. But we all know a dupe is rarely as good as the real thing. Nothing compares to the melt-in-your-mouth experience of a fresh Original Glazed™.

This National Doughnut Day, we’re inviting everyone to taste the difference and remind them that when it comes to doughnuts, there’s only one OG. We want doughnut fans to enjoy the best of the best, so turn your backs on the dupes and stick with the original. We’re excited to see the reactions as people upgrade their ‘Faux-Gs’ for the real deal.”

The queen of rap Lady Leshurr said “I’ve been lucky enough to work with Krispy Kreme and show these other competitors who the real OG is, the Original Glazed doughnut. For me, an original is always the best thing, whether that’s music or doughnuts. You have to remind people who the originals are, otherwise history gets rewritten by the copycats.”

But only 21 per cent felt they were as good as the real thing, with 10 per cent going as far as to say they were always disappointed.

And 30 per cent even claimed they sent a ‘dupe’ back so they could go and get the original instead. While 53 per cent have admitted they are unlikely to ever buy another dupe again after feeling let down in the past.

To take part in the Faux-G to Original Glazed upgrade, take proof of purchase of any glazed doughnut ring into a Krispy Kreme shop on 6th April to get a FREE Original Glazed™ upgrade.
