Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa, one of Ireland’s most scenic five-star destinations, has reimagined the traditional Afternoon Tea with the launch of an elegant new four-course experience with every detail designed to encourage guests to pause, savour, and connect with the landscape around them.
Perched high above the Lakes of Killarney, the hotel offers breathtaking panoramic views of Lough Leane, ancient woodlands, and the surrounding mountains – a stunning backdrop that is as much a part of the experience as the menu itself.
Moving away from the conventional tiered presentation, Executive Head Chef Cyrille Durand and Head Pastry Chef Eric Besson, have crafted the four distinct courses that allows guests to enjoy each element in its own time, and relax as they connect with their surroundings through different flavours. While both chefs are classically trained in France, they have drawn on their experience of more than 20 years in Ireland to create a menu that celebrates local provenance, delicate flavours, and refined pâtisserie craftsmanship.
The experience begins with a selection of sophisticated savoury bites, including Kerry chorizo with St Tola goat curd, crab mini blini, and black truffle egg mayonnaise. A refreshing second course follows with a house-made Irish rhubarb and honey soda crafted with honey from the hotel’s own bees, capturing the floral essence of local hedgerows.
The third course honours tradition with homemade fruit scones served alongside seasonal preserves, along with pastries such as crispy raspberry madeleines and ube financier. The final course is an indulgent collection of desserts, including Sliabh Luachra strawberry tartlet, calamansi Paris Brest, carrot-orange-bergamot cake, and chocolate mon chéri.
Each course is accompanied by a selection of herbal and loose-leaf teas, with options ranging from Jasmine Pearls and Genmaicha to Irish Whiskey Cream and Granny’s Garden. Guests may also opt for speciality Bewley’s coffee. For those marking a special occasion, the experience can be elevated with Champagne Gremillet, Tuffeau Vouvray sparkling wine, or the signature Aghadoe Bellini.
The Aghadoe Afternoon Tea is available Friday to Sunday (1-3pm), priced at €55 per person.
