With Halloween approaching and families looking for fun ways to celebrate, enjoy these spooky recipes: a frightfully fun Halloween Burger and adorable Meringue Ghosts….

The Halloween Burger is a ghoulishly good treat, perfect for kids to help decorate with spooky cheese and olive eyes – an ideal pre-trick-or-treat dinner.

Our Ghost Meringues are light, airy, and incredibly fun to make with just a few simple ingredients. Kids will love piping these ghostly figures and decorating them with faces, making them a delightful dessert or party favour.

Recipe 1: Halloween Burgers

 

Ingredients

1 yellow onion
500 g beef mince or pork and beef mince
30 g tomato purée
15 ml fresh oregano
10 g Siúcra/McKinney’s Rich Dark Brown Sugar
Salt, pepper
Butter or margarine
4 hamburger buns
8 green olives
1 red pepper

 

Instructions

Peel, dice and fry the onion in the butter/margarine in a frying pan. Add the meat and fry until brown. Add the tomato purée, oregano and Siúcra/McKinney’s Rich Dark Brown Sugar. Season with salt and pepper.
Distribute the meat mixture on top of the buns. Stick an olive on each of the toothpicks and stick two into the top of each bun. Cut four tongues from the red pepper and press into the meat.

 

Recipe 2: Meringue ghosts

 

Ingredients

6 egg whites
250 g Siúcra/McKinney’s Granulated Sugar
Pinch of salt

Instructions

Whisk the egg whites with an electric beater at medium speed until they form stiff peaks. Add the salt and sugar and continue whisking at the highest speed until the mixture is shiny. Put in a piping bag and pipe out the mixture in the shape of ghosts or bones. Bake at the centre of the oven at 125 °C for just over 1 hour. Place on a wire rack. Make eyes for the ghosts with melted chocolate or icing.
