05 November, Dublin: With the homeless community facing an especially challenging winter this year, Deliveroo has today announced that it will work with restaurant partners to donate over 1,000 hot meals to Dublin Simon Community throughout November.

Each week this month, different restaurants on the food delivery platform will prepare a selection of hot meals, free of charge, that Deliveroo will distribute to 12 of Dublin Simon Community’s services located across the city.  The free meals will be delivered by Deliveroo for Business, the corporate arm of Deliveroo, which can deliver large numbers of meals at a time in vans.

Food being delivered will include pizza, curries and rice, burritos and asian fare from some of Dublin’s best known and most popular restaurants. The outlets taking part are Sano; Papa Johns; India Today; Kerala Kitchen; Boojum; Salsa; Xian Street food; Eatokyo; Musashi; and Bunsen.

Jennifer Kitson, National Partnerships Development at Dublin Simon Community said: “ People experiencing homelessness are one of the most vulnerable and isolated groups during the Covid crisis. A comforting meal can go a long way in lifting our service users’ spirits, so we’re extremely grateful to Deliveroo for this donation. It has also been heart-warming to see how generous local restaurants have been despite the challenges their sector is currently facing.”

Paddy Quinlan, Growth Manager and spokesperson for Deliveroo Ireland said: “At Deliveroo, we’ve been inspired by the great work Dublin Simon Community has been doing throughout the pandemic to ensure homeless individuals get the continued support they need. We’re proud that we can work alongside our amazingly generous restaurant partners to lend a helping hand. We are committed to using our delivery network to give back to those in need this Christmas.”

David Maxwell, Managing Director, Boojum Ltd, said: “We are proud to support Deliveroo with this fantastic initiative. It is more important than ever that the whole community bands together to support those most in need.”

Deliveroo has been committed to aiding frontline services since the onset of the pandemic. In May, it launched an in-app function that enabled customers to donate to the Health Service Executive (HSE). The feature raised over €30,000, including financial contribution from Deliveroo.
