Marée, opening this summer, is a new restaurant by Chef Karl Whelan, set over two floors in a historic building on Barrow Street. A modern Irish restaurant with a distinct French accent, Marée has an elegant dining room, and an upstairs lounge with views out over the surrounding contemporary cityscape through its glass roof, and a Terrace with views of the water.

Bookings go live for the months of July, August and September on Monday 25th May at 10am and reservations can be made on www.marée.ie  There will also be a welcome for walk-ins in the downstairs bar.

An elegant addition to Dublin’s Docklands, Marée offers a love letter to French cuisine. The menus in this convivial dining space will showcase a commitment to seasonal, sustainable ingredients, all elevated by precise, classic technique.

A nod to his time spent living and working in Paris, the restaurant name means tide, a tribute to its waterside setting.  The design plays on a blend of classical French restaurants and modern international hospitality spaces. Designed by Ahmad Fakhry,  the concept juxtaposes old meets new, which reflects both the historic building itself — a former miller’s lodge —  and its ultramodern surroundings. Some of the building’s beautiful features are exposed with bold new elements introduced

Classic meets contemporary is the theme throughout, from the menus in the restaurant to the relaxed, attentive service with elements of tableside theatre, with chefs finishing dishes tableside. The  wine selection is comprised solely of European options prioritising wines from smaller organic and biodynamic producers.

“This feels like a dream restaurant,” says Karl Whelan, “and it has been a long time coming. It’s somewhere that brings together all of the things I love most — atmospheric, relaxed and unpretentious, and completely focused on quality and flavour. With Marée, I’m really hoping to channel the generosity and hospitality of some of my favourite Parisian experiences, married to the best Irish ingredients and some truly great drinks.”
