  • The corner directly opposite Toners on Baggot Street is now home to a beautiful new modern Italian restaurant by the name of Cirillo's. Cirillo’s offers authentic Italian antipasti, pasta dishes and wood-fired pizzas for lunch and dinner, with all their pasta, breads, pizza dough and ice creams made fresh in-house every day.

  • There are only a couple of artisan wood fired oven manufacturers left in Naples. We found the best – a fourth generation Neapolitan oven manufacturer. It took nine months to convince the Fererra family and their team of Artisans to leave their factory in Naples to make their very first fixed oven in Ireland. Nine tonne pallets of original materials were shipped into Dublin in anticipation of their arrival. Brick-by-brick from the ground up, a team of artisan oven builders brought ancient style of oven building using Old World Neapolitan techniques to Dublin.

    Taking ten days to construct, Santa Maria bricks from Campania were used in the walls and dome, the cooking surface is Biscotto di Sorrento and all of this is packed together with mortar made from volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius. Says Mr Fererra “This is not a prefabbed oven, this is an ancient style Forno (oven) that we built using old world Neapolitan techniques, passed down from my great-grandfather. We locked all workers out during the oven building process so that we could protect our local secrets. I first built ovens with my grandfather when I was just 13 years old, today my son and I carry on this ancient tradition. To this day our ovens routinely maintains daily dome temperatures of 500°C and our ovens can be found fixed in the best street pizzerias of Naples”.

    Forno 500°’s Restaurant, Bar and Pizzeria is situated on Dame Street, sandwiched between the Olympia theatre and Brogan’s Bar. It is in a beautiful warm space formerly known as Les Feres Jacques. Now completely transformed it houses the first fixed bespoke Neapolitan wood burning oven in Ireland. Using genuine top quality ingredients imported from Naples. The new restaurant in Dublin is now a two story eatery serving the classic soft Pizza di Napoli and fresh pastas.

  • Situated in the centre of Athlone, just a minute or two’s walk from the bank of the River Shannon, when you walk through the doors of Gertie Browne’s, you immediately get a sense that you are welcome. That won’t come as a surprise to anyone who is familiar with the history of this establishment however as, from as early as the 10th or 11th centuries, Gertie Browne’s has been a hostelry of some sort.
     
    The pub itself dates back over 1,000 years, initially acting as a resting point for those travelling west while also providing them with a place to house their horse-drawn carriages for the night. Nowadays, you’ll more often than not find a mixture of Athlonians perched at the old world style bar enjoying a drink or a bite to eat in our comfortable and familiar surroundings while exchanging some of the local gossip with our friendly staff behind the bar.
     
    As you make your way through our deceptively long tavern, you’ll no doubt notice the curious tourists who have wandered in to study and admire the various bric-a-brac that decorates our walls from top to bottom as well as to try a pint of, what is rumoured to be, some of the best Guinness in Athlone. Tongue and groove walls, antique pitch pine counters and genuine salvaged memorabilia all help give our emporium that relaxed and pleasant atmosphere we are known for. You’ll even find an open fire featured in the front bar during the colder months.
     
    Also known to locals as the ideal location to meet for a hearty meal, the focus at Gertie Browne’s is on no-nonsense, high quality food and drinks. Featuring a mixture of old school pub grub classics, the bar food comes from the same kitchen as Hatters’ Lane Bistro kitchen next door, which means every bit of love that goes into the plate there is to be found here at Gertie Browne’s as well.     Our menu makes extensive use of locally produced, high-quality Irish ingredients that are thoughtfully sourced including Hereford beef from Offaly, organic salads from Millhouse Farm in Roscommon, pork from Horan’s Pork Shop, mince from Dunning’s Master Butchers and fruit and vegetables from Behan’s, many of which are based here in Athlone.     We offer two main menus here at Hatters’ Lane Bistro; an À La Carte menu and the Value Menu. The À La Carte Menu is available Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm to 10.00pm and the Value Menu is available Monday to Thursday from 5.30pm to 10pm, as well as on Friday and Saturday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Prices for the Value Menu at Hatters’ Lane Bistro start at €25 for two courses or €30 for three courses. On Sundays, we offer a special menu which changes week to week and is available from 12.00pm to 7.00pm.
     
    First opening its doors in 1999, Hatters’ Lane Bistro has passed hands over the last couple of years, however, the new owners have still maintained the quirky interiors which make it so unique. Featuring an open fire, check table clothes and walls adorned with pictures of some of Hollywood's biggest movie star icons, the background music is easy listening typically featuring tunes from Sinatra, Martin, Bennett and the likes.
     
    Our warm and hospitable atmosphere makes our venue the ideal location for gatherings of all shapes and sizes.     "Keshk is remarkable in a number of ways but lets take wine first. You bring your own wine or beer and they don’t even charge you for the service of opening it, pouring it into the rather attractive wine glasses provided, washing them up afterwards and recycling the bottle.

    The food here is, broadly speaking, that of north African and the Eastern Med, apart of the world that is, for religious reasons, largely for teetotal.. It is also the kind of food that appeals to something very deep inside me: Its a sunny kind of food, with lots of garlic, lemon, cumin, lamb grilled over charcoal, flat breads. olive oil…. I suspect you will understand what I’m getting at.

    Keshk is a gem. Most of the menu is as simple as it gets, good raw materials cooked in a way that goes back centuries, a reminder that you can eat very well indeed without spending a fortune- The bill came to a very reasonable €59.70- and, in the poor excuse for the summer, a reminder also, of the food of the sunnier places."

  • Le Petit Breton is an artisan crêperie located on the busy junction of Whitworth Road and Lower Drumcondra Road, only a stone’s throw from the city centre.

    The crêperie in Brittany is found in every town and village, and is popular with all ages. Typically crêpes are the only menu option and customers have a savoury crêpe followed by a sweet one alongside a glass of craft cider. Here at Le Petit Breton we are offering you a little more choice, without losing our identity as a crêperie.

    Chef Gregory Autret has created a menu of Crêpes and Galettes using the finest Breton produts. Table service all day long for food and drinks. Taking inspiration from his home town and the ever present Breton tradition, come and enjoy an authentic experience!

    The savoury crêpes are made from buckwheat flour (a naturally gluten free product) while the sweet crêpes are made from wheat flour. For authenticity our crêpes are made from flour produced in a Brittany mill, and imported directly. When crêpes were first made in the 15th century in Brittany they were considered peasant food. Over time simple fillings were added and many remain popular today. At Le Petit Breton we’ve kept some of these old favourites such as La Complète (egg, ham and cheese) but have added more contemporary options showcasing the best of Irish produce (see our full menu here).

    Linnane’s Lobster Bar is located in the heart of the Burren, County Clare. Take in the fantastic views of Aughinish & Galway Bay while surrounded by sea and limestone landscape. Watch as boats come and go from the Pier at New Quay, fishing for the shellfish that can be served straight to your table. Built over 300 years ago to function as a post office and public house the building has remained at the centre of the New Quay community for generations.     THE FLAGGY SHORE

    The Flaggy Shore, located a short walk from Linnane’s is one of nine sites of geological importance that forms the basis of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher (UNESCO Global Geopark). Famous for its limestone pavements, fossils embedded in the rock, including sculptured rocks along the shore called ‘biokarst’. A paved road runs along the shore making it ideal for walkers of all ability and age. The Flaggy Shore is an ideal place to find clues about where the ancient ice sheets came – and in what direction the glaciers moved. The clues can be found by looking at the rocks along the shore and identifying the odd one out. Most of the cobbles and boulders along the shore are grey limestone rocks, but some are glacial erratics of other rock types, such as granite or sandstone.

    Maneki Karaoke

    In essence, pretty much everyone in Japan does karaoke! While there are, of course, people who would rather push needles into their fingertips than sing in public, the private rooms in Japan are much more accommodating for the less-than-stellar singers or the crooners who can’t quite find the right key—but wanna sing out nevertheless. As the only people in the room are those in your party, you can feel more comfortable letting loose and not worrying about a stranger’s harsh judgment. Not to mention, people in Japan are typically very encouraging and supportive. Teasing is not a part of the culture, and keeping the harmony (a big part of Japanese culture) means uplifting the less-talented singers while being careful not to overly praise the power performers.

    As with every topic about a group of people at large, this doesn’t apply to everyone. There will always be those groups who are more comfortable with ribbing and joking while singing, but, generally, karaoke in Japan is a safe and open place for all levels of singers.

    Furthermore, karaoke rooms can typically accommodate your group, whether large or small. You can rock up to a karaoke shop as a couple, with friends or even a large sports team or company afterparty (keep in mind that large party rooms should be booked in advance). You can even go alone, which is commonly called hitokara (a blending of hitori de, meaning “by oneself,” and karaoke). While some people might consider going to karaoke alone a bit sad, it’s a great way to work on those songs you wanted to master (but couldn’t belt in your shower) or a good place to practice your musical instruments—as music studio rental fees are much higher than a karaoke room.

    Locally sourced produce, cooked with expertise over an open fire of Irish hardwoods, to create flavours that fuse the beauty of Irish produce with the spirit of the Mediterranean.

    As in our name, derived from the Spanish translation of Cluain Tarbh (Clontarf) – “Prado del Toro”, the Meadow of the Bull.

    Served by the sea in Clontarf, Prado provides two smart yet relaxed dining spaces, that are perfect for everything from a casual lunch or brunch, a night out with friends, to a private function area for up to 80 guests.

  • Ireland’s most unique dining experience. Step back in time and dine aboard the Pullman Restaurant. Comprising of two original carriages from the Orient Express, beautifully restored and set on the grounds of the hotel. Enjoy the luxury and splendour of dining in true style and sit by the window seat and take in the spectacular views overlooking Glenlo Abbey Estate and Lough Corrib.

    Converted into a wonderful restaurant car retaining all of its original character, this historic Pullman train carriage had been residing at Elsenham Station in Hertfordshire, England, before joining the many and varied facilities already available at Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate Galway.

    A 2 AA rosette award-winning restaurant, the Pullman Restaurant is certainly a dining experience like no other.

    Please note that in line with Government Guidelines, and for the health and safety of both our guests and staff, Pullman Restaurant has extended its opening hours and affords diners space in a socially distant setting.

    History of the Pullman Restaurant

    The Pullman Restaurant on the grounds of the Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate is one of Ireland`s truly unique dining experiences. Comprising of two dining carriages, one of which is called Leona, dates back to 1927 and was part of the original Orient Express.

    The carriage has had a varied life, it famously covered the Orient Express route, taken in Istanbul, Monte Carlo-Nice, all the way to St. Petersburg in Russia. As well as that, the carriage was part of the Brighton Belle which route would have transported guests from London to Brighton. Many celebrated and famous personas of the time, like Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy to name a few would have travelled this route to Brighton to perform, as it was the hive of activity for Theatre and show in Great Britain at the time.

    1965 saw Leona’s final journey when she was used as part of Winston Churchill ‘s funeral cortege to transport his remains to his final resting place at St. Martins Church, just outside Blenheim Palace.

    After this event, Leona played a starring role in the 1974 film adaption of Agatha Christie’s, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, which starred Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall and Sean Connery.

    Leona also served as a restaurant at Elsenham Station in Essex, not far from London Stansted Airport and included the 1954 carriage Linda, which makes up the other half of our unique dining facility. We opened our doors in May 1998.

    The Pullman Restaurant offers fabulous views of Lough Corrib and our beautiful Estate and ironically it is located only 300 meters away from the old track bed of the now sadly lost Galway-Clifden railway line which was disbanded in the mid 1930`s.

    Aboard the Pullman, you will enjoy a unique dining experience like no other, the service is jovial and personal with a thoughtfully selected list of fine wines and the best locally sourced food prepared by our experienced and passionate kitchen team.
