Casual

  • When we took over The Legal Eagle, we inherited some of the glorious features, and the building really spoke to us of old-fashioned pub-grub. That style of food is very much in the 'nose-to-tail' world of dining, but the more we thought about it, the more we realised that 'nose-to-tail' (use every bit and don't waste it!!) sits alongside a celebration of vegetables very comfortably! Both are a celebration of produce, and we hope to use some lesser celebrated vegetables and vegetable tops etc.

Lunch downstairs features a daily - changing roast-in-a-roll, Irish potato flatbreads (Think bacon, cabbage and parsley sauce. Think roasted squash, fig and honey. Think smoked haddock brandade, fennel and duck egg!) and meats from our wood oven, traditional meat platters (hay-smoked ham, corned mutton, haslet, pickles, sourdough etc) and fish platters.

Dinner downstairs adds roasted bone marrow, rump heart, cauliflower rarebit, Shropshire Blue soufflé and roasted-buttered turnip tops.

There are twenty craft beers on tap (with a rotating guest tap), and a small, but considered and decidedly un-trendy, classic cocktail list. We are crazy about beer, whiskey and gin but wine is where we started and it remains a driving force for us. We have over 200 wines on a stellar list written with love.

  • Opened first in 2006 we realised we had something special in our little cave on South William Street in Dublin 2! Twelve months later, we opened another little cave in Temple Bar and our third in a cottage in Dundrum Town’s Centre’s Pembrook District.

After three successful restaurants and seven years of hard work and saving our pocket money, we decided we were grown up enough to hit London in search of fame and fortune down the West End of Covent Garden, where we hope to get a small bit part alongside Jude Law!

In 2019, we were delighted to announce that we opened our fifth location in Camden Street, Dublin 2. Which is an incredibly diverse area that gives us the opportunity to present our tapas, ports and wines with a focus on Cava that does not receive the attention it deserves.

    SOUTH WILLIAM STREET, DUBLIN 2

Traditional Spanish bar located in the heart of Dublin Town, South William Street. Offering a variety of Basque Pintxos and Tapas along with an eclectic list of wines, ports and sherries.

    TEMPLE BAR, DUBLIN 2

Located in Temple Bar, Port House Pintxo offers a romantic underground vibe with booth seating and one of Dublin's coolest outdoor terraces overlooking Meeting House Square so customers can also enjoy outdoor concerts in the summer.

    DUNDRUM, DUBLIN 14

Located in the prestigious Dundrum Town Centre area of South County Dublin, the cosy cottage restaurant offers not only our exquisite range of food, wine, port and sherry, there is a large open area for summer al fresco dining.

    CAMDEN STREET, DUBLIN 2

Located on the buzzing Camden Street, the Port House Cava offers an extensive tapas & pintxo menu, wines and port lists and a large selection of the Catalonian Sparkling wine ranging across many styles and varieties.

    THE STRAND, LONDON

The cellar-like, candelit restaurant is ideally located in the heart of the West End and only steps away from Convent Garden's Piazza. Sourcing its wine from all regions of Spain and Portugal, they serve an array of fine ports and sherries.

    PRIVATE DINING

If you're searching for the perfect venue for a group get together the Port House has rooms to fit any occasion. Whether it's a staff group night out, a birthday or anniversary celebration or a friends brunch- the Port House offers private dining in all of our locations, in Dublin and in London.

  • Est 1770s

Great pub, great pints, great food, great craic. You truly capture a sense of the hidden Ireland when you accidentally stumble upon The Stag’s Head. Finding it is akin to discovering a rare treasure as it is concealed through a narrow passageway off Dame Street, although access can also be gained through Exchequer Street or Georges Street. When you enter inside this feeling of discovered booty is greatly intensified as a virtual paradise of culture and old world values confronts you. This is probably Dublin’s best preserved Victorian pub – and everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. Take time to look around and savour the sumptuously carved Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops.

Visiting the Stag’s Head is a wondrous experience whether you call when the premises is cosy, warm and glowing at night time, or in early morning when this is old repository of liquid culture is radiantly illuminated by wafts of sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. The mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern, being long and punctuated by exquisite partitions that divide into private compartments or stalls.

    History

Though a tavern has existed on this site since the 1780’s, this premises first attained great fame in the 1830’s as ‘John Bull’s Albion Hotel and Tavern’. This was one of the most sought after premises of the age in close proximity to ‘Dublin’s Theatreland’ and the fashionable stores of Dame Street and College Green. A popular music hall business was developed on the site, a trend continued by proprietors Alica and Henry Murphy during the 1840’s. William Wormington succeeded them here in the 1860’s and James Kennedy took the reins in the 1880’s.

    Birth of the Stag’s Head

The Stag’s Head was the brainchild of Westmoreland merchant George Tyson who came to Ireland in the 1870’s and established a thriving Menswear and Haderdashery business in Grafton Street, from where he was appointed ‘outfitter and shirtmaker to the Lord Lieutenant’. He acquired this premises in the early 1890’s and commissioned leading architect J.M. McGloughlin of Pearse Street to build Dublin’s most advanced and distinctive Victorian pub – and the first in the Capital to enjoy electric light. The new creation opened its doors to the Dublin public in May 1894 amid majestic fanfare and distinguished patronage including the Lord Lieutenant and the most respected members of contemporary Victorian society. Tyson’s name is still to be seen on the large clock on the outside of the building. Another outstanding vestige of this era is the little parlour lounge discreetly situated behind the main bar; in former times this area served as a fashionable Victorian smoking room.

Don’t miss the great craic of one of Dublin’s most renowned Traditional Music sessions that can be enjoyed downstairs in the Stag’s Tail. Private Parties, Corporate functions and Group Bookings for food and drinks can be accommodated in either of our spacious and private lounges.

    Food at the Stag’s Head

The Stag’s Head is a far cry from Tripe and Cows Heel today serving only the finest fare of this century to passing diners.

You will find traditional Bacon and Cabbage and the Best Fish and Chips in Dublin being served to customers from near and far who pass through the Stags’ Head along with many other traditional Irish dishes.

Food is available midday to 6pm, seven days a week with party food available on request. Visit www.stagshead.ie for more information and menus.

  • When The Winding Stair opened its door, as a restaurant, in August 2006, Dubliners flocked to see what all the fuss was about. Here was a restaurant serving simple, homecooked and most importantly all Irish food in a little room overlooking the river Liffey.

A gastro-pub style of cuisine but using only seasonal Irish produce where possible and an army of well-trained friendly staff who were ready to explain this ethos to the diners. The room itself is always buzzing.

The venue had occupied a special place in Dubliner’s hearts, having been a famous landmark bookshop and café for many years and photographs of its famous visitors line the entrance to the bathrooms.

For a truly urban view over the river Liffey and the finest examples of Irish produce treated with care and respect, there is no better place than the quirky Winding Stair. It’s always busy so book early to avoid disappointment!

  •  The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. To this end, we hope that The Woollen Mills be quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale.
We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a serious coffee and bun, a serious plate of Irish ham and chips, a place to take home a box of salads and scones, sourdough and sausage rolls, or sit with seven courses of anchovies and crab and herrings and pork and beef rib, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge and Liffey with a fine bottle of red. Or a craft beer!
The building is over four floors and is (almost) literally on top of the bridge, with double aspect windows and a roof terrace onto the ultimate Dublin cityscape. It is truly magical and so so special. We have our own bakery and will have a large retail and take-out emphasis, so passing folk can buy our breads, pastries and cakes, as well as choose from a huge sandwich and salad selection during the day. If you sit long enough, you will see at least one person you know!

  • Welcome to TOSCANA City Centre Italian restaurants in Dublin located on Dame Street. Recently awarded the Good Food Ireland best Farm to Table Restaurants in Ireland. This award has become the most coveted honour amongst Dublin's best restaurants.

Toscana Italian restaurant is located in the heart of the most historic part of the City Centre and on the edge of the Temple bar district, opposite Dublin Castle, close to Christchurch cathederal, it has become an icon for locals and pre-theatre diners and voted top 10 best Italian restaurants by Lovin Dublin.

Our food is simply prepared at the right price and using as much of our home-grown produce that we grow at our family farm in Co. Wicklow. The farm-house gardens are in integral part of Toscana’s philosophy towards cooking at our popular Dublin restaurant, and we believe that our customers should eat as well as we do at home. Avoiding nasty sprays, we grow our own seasonal organic fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs and pick fresh daily for our restaurant in the heart of Dublin City Centre. We pride ourselves on honest seasonal vegetables packed with nutrients. “Our aim is to bring the spirit of the Mediterranean lifestyle into our busy city kitchens, elevating simple Italian traditions into flavours our customers return for. Having grown up ourselves on a Mediterranean diet and picking our breakfast from our Father's gardens I feel great pleasure combining the fertile Irish soil with the rich heritage of classic and modern Italian cuisine”. Says Vetoni, Toscana's Chef/Proprietor.

Ideally located near Vicar Street, Gaiety and Tivoli theatres, and so near to the Olympia Theatre in Dublin. So whether it's a leisurely lunch, Early Bird/Pre theatre dinner in Dublin or an atmospheric evening with family or friends, if you wish to combine a real trattoria feel with a warm friendly atmosphere, in one of the best Italian restaurants in Dublin then Toscana is a must!

  • Tucker Reilly, although not explicitly mentioned in Ireland’s rich literary history, embodies the essence of all Dublin characters from times past. His name has become synonymous with mystery and intrigue, often used to conceal the true identity of a story’s protagonist and grant a sense of immunity while telling stories within the realm of pub circles. “Who shared that tale with you?” one might ask. The reply, “Ah, it was none other than Tucker Reilly.” Tell your own story of Tucker Reilly! For the history of the commoner is often lost. Because at the end of the day, anyone who has made their city a better, more enjoyable place to live in deserves to have their story told.

  • Urban Brewing is at the very heart the exciting and ever developing Dublin Docklands, combining a craft brewery with two unique bars and its own Stack A Restaurant within. We’ve created our intimate home in a stunning, vaulted 19th century warehouse space in the CHQ Building. Our venue is a mix of offerings that is inspired by travels and journeys of our own and suits any occasion. A briefly detailed outline is shared below.

Urban Brewing and Hop Garden Terrace

Our most social, informal and vibrant space with its own dedicated open kitchen, crafting an array of international tapas style dishes and substantial raciones, and a fantastic drinks selection with over 200 beers -some of them brewed on-site, more than 100 wines, as well as very selective spirits and inventive cocktails.

Our large Hop Garden Terrace, fully heated and covered, is an ideal all year-round spot to enjoy a drink, bite, or coffee. Think of an oasis and a suntrap at the same time.

    Stack A Restaurant

Located in our 200-year-old vaults, an architectural masterpiece in its own right, Stack A is a smart casual restaurant suited to intimate small tables, social gatherings or larger groups up to 300+ guests. Due to the layout of the vaults, each separated by a wonderful wall of brick and stone, it makes for an unrivalled atmosphere and setting. Serving both lunch and dinner, group menus, canapes and a lot more, it is a unique space to bring your relatives, friends or clients.

Stack A Restaurant is temporarily closed and will be reopening in Autumn.

    Tours and tastings, Brewmasters’ Table

With the first of its kind brewery in Ireland, we are well suited to offer a variety of brewery tour packages and tastings, including beer and food pairing experiences. These can be organised in advance and a highlight we are really proud of. During these tours you get to immerse yourself in the brewing process, taste whichever beers we are pouring at the moment, and meet the brewers for a more in depth and approachable chat.

Our tours are currently unavailable and will be back soon.

  • The Anglers Rest is the perfect place to enjoy a cosy evening beside the fire or al fresco dining in our sunny terrace. Open from 12 noon daily with fine food & live traditional music 7 nights a week!

One of Dublin’s best known and most inviting restaurants, The Angler’s Rest offers an extensive menu and top-class cuisine in the welcoming ambience of its French threadbare-style and elegance. Originally built as a hotel in 1865 and used by honeymooning Dubliners, it has always been called The Anglers Rest and is still serving great seafood to this day.

Just a 10-15-minute drive from Dublin City Centre, this landmark establishment in the seclusion of the Strawberry Beds – next door to the Phoenix Park – has a history that stretches back to Cromwellian times and the famous patriot Michael Collins. It has long been considered as his the favourite watering hole and for anglers fishing along the banks of the adjacent River Liffey.

Today, the tradition of great food and drink continues with a strong culinary reputation, including the freshest seafood landed by Wrights of Howth, and a wide selection of national and international brands of beers, wines and spirits.

The charming Sackville Terrace is renowned for summer dining, while the ‘Salmon Room’ can cater for intimate private dining, and the stylish upstairs Phoenix room – with a capacity of up to 150 – is perfect for weddings & other special events.

Its picturesque location next to the banks of the Liffey at the Strawberry Beds and its reputation for fine food has made The Anglers Rest an increasingly popular and alternative venue for weddings.

Our stunning 1st floor Phoenix Room is the perfect venue for your wedding, birthday or other celebration, catering for 35-150 people.

    Anglers Rest History

The Strawberry Beds 1600AD. Previously this road was the main road to the West, on which Oliver Cromwell’s army marched in 1641. During the 1919-1922 period, Michael Collins would meet his Dublin Castle spies in this pub. In one of these meetings he was handed a list of names & a photograph of a group of enemy agents.

The Guinness family have long been associated with the Strawberry Beds area. It was famous for its strawberries, hence the name and also for its fresh water springs. If you listen you can hear the river Liffey flowing, which runs adjacent to the pub.

In 1840, it was known as Kellys Anglers Rest & in 1899 it was known as Doyles Anglers Rest. Since 1999 it has been Wrights Anglers Rest which people know and love today.
