  • Bowls is inspired by the “Cha Chaan Teng” café establishments that saw popularity in post-war Hong Kong.

    With increased urbanisation and an influx of Western expats during this period, a succession of Cha Chaan Teng cafés emerged to provide locals with access to Western food, which was otherwise only served in expensive hotel restaurants.

    commonly found in Hong Kong, Macau and parts of Guangdong. They are known for eclectic and affordable menus, which include dishes from Hong Kong cuisine and Hong Kong-style Western cuisine.

    Since the mass migration of Hong Kong people in the 1980s they are also commonplace in many Western countries like Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, particularly in the Chinatown areas of many major cities. They are often called Hong Kong Style Cafe in English, due to the casual setting as well as coffee & tea being central to the menu.

Chinese Savoury Doughnut (Youtiao) for its popularity in Hong Kong served with a bowl of breakfast Congee (Rice Porridge) or try our small snack sides menu from Pot Sticker Dumplings to something Sweet of Black Sesame rice Dumplings (Tong Yuan) served with Ginger & Rock sugar syrup, Tempura of Broccoli with Ginger Black Chinese Vinegar.

  • CHINESE RESTAURANT & MUSIC VENUE IN DUBLIN

    Don't let the anonymous takeaway door fool you, it's far from chicken balls and 3-in-1s that Hang Dai was raised. Reverent raiding parties set off for Beijing and Hong Kong, returning with the knowledge to forge a menu from local ingredients. Our aim is to make food that would pass the strictest Chinese grandma's taste test.

    Roast duck and dumplings are our main squeeze but music is no mere side hustle. A custom built sound system and DJ booth belt out tunes from last service until the wee hours, with a carefully-constructed cocktail menu in tow. Lashings of disco and Hang Dai Sours are the order of the day.

    GOLD BAR

    Sitting on top of our Camden Street home, the Gold Bar is Hang Dai’s new kid on the old block, with sun-kissed balcony views out across the bustling street below. With our full menu from downstairs on offer, ace cocktails, and epically curated tunes, the Gold Bar is a breath of fresh air on the Dublin venue scene.

    Hang Dai’s main man, Toby Hatchett of Hatchett Sound & Furniture, has fitted out the new bar with red leather, brass fittings, unique wood panelling and a gorgeous gold ceiling. Naturally, the Gold Bar also features one of Toby’s bespoke sound systems, handmade in his Cork studio to the highest standard available.

    Now open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm till late and Sundays from 5pm-9:30pm. It is available to book for parties of all sizes. Call or email to organise private events in the Gold Bar. Our balcony is fully covered and heated for those chillier evenings too.

  • Literally a stone’s throw from The Spire on O’Connell Street is M&L Chinese Restaurant - as authentic a Chinese as you will find. A huge menu is on offer but it’s best to ask the staff to recommend something for you!

    Across the road is it’s sister venue, The Vintage Teapot - this place is a gem - a little oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, boasting many Chinese teas. They also have a private dining room upstairs - step back in time with beautiful Oriental paintings and furnishings.

  • Old Post Office, the new fine dining Sichuan restaurant aptly named after one of Blackrock’s oldest and most iconic buildings, the original post office of Blackrock, is already becoming the cornerstone of elevated Asian cookery in the southside Dublin suburb.
