    The Old Convent Country House is nestled at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains in beautiful County Tipperary - a unique destination for those seeking elegant accommodation, Irish artisan cuisine, refreshing walks in the picturesque countryside and a convenient location to explore local antiquities and natural amenities.

    Past

    The Convent was constructed in 1885 when the Sisters of Mercy were asked to take charge of Clogheen workhouse. It was the same year the sisters also began teaching in the local school.

    When the workhouse system was abolished and the Clogheen workhouse closed, the Sisters continued to teach in the local school and work in the present St. Theresa’s hospital located in the only remaining building of the original workhouse complex. In 1991, the Mercy order decided to sell the Convent and build a lovely bungalow adjacent for the resident nuns, where they still reside to this day.

    Present

    Dermot and Christine Gannon bought the building in 2005 with a vision to create a space where guests could relax and rejuvenate, while enjoying great food and the beautiful Tipperary countryside.

    The Old Convent was born in July of 2006. The daily changing tasting menu was key to fulfilling their goal of using the freshest Irish artisan ingredients, served in the beautiful Chapel Dining Room.

    Dermot’s daily changing 8 Course Irish Artisan Tasting Menu is served in The Chapel Dining Room at 8 pm. There is just one seating for dinner, so the table is yours to enjoy for the entire evening.

    Like Temple Bar itself The Shack Restaurant offers a modern twist on something that is quintessentially Irish. The Shack, which sits right in the heart of Temple Bar, attracts tourists from around the globe and appeals to anyone from 18 to 80. Managing Director, Paul Lewis, heads the operation and over sees the kitchen and food production. He is joined by Head chef, Pat Murray, who has worked at the restaurant since 2001.     Housed in a charming stone cottage which dates in part from 1700, The Washerwoman is a neighbourhood restaurant but perfect for a special occasion or a casual dining experience.

  • The Winding Stair

    When The Winding Stair opened its door, as a restaurant, in August 2006, Dubliners flocked to see what all the fuss was about. Here was a restaurant serving simple, homecooked and most importantly all Irish food in a little room overlooking the river Liffey.

    A gastro-pub style of cuisine but using only seasonal Irish produce where possible and an army of well-trained friendly staff who were ready to explain this ethos to the diners. The room itself is always buzzing.

    The venue had occupied a special place in Dubliner’s hearts, having been a famous landmark bookshop and café for many years and photographs of its famous visitors line the entrance to the bathrooms.

    For a truly urban view over the river Liffey and the finest examples of Irish produce treated with care and respect, there is no better place than the quirky Winding Stair. It’s always busy so book early to avoid disappointment!

     The Woollen Mills has been one of the most iconic buildings and businesses in Dublin for over one hundred years, and to have taken over this site is a serious privilege. To this end, we hope that The Woollen Mills be quintessentially Irish, local and of its locale.
     We want it to be an 'Eating House', a house of food, a place to grab a serious coffee and bun, a serious plate of Irish ham and chips, a place to take home a box of salads and scones, sourdough and sausage rolls, or sit with seven courses of anchovies and crab and herrings and pork and beef rib, overlooking the Ha'penny Bridge and Liffey with a fine bottle of red. Or a craft beer!
     The building is over four floors and is (almost) literally on top of the bridge, with double aspect windows and a roof terrace onto the ultimate Dublin cityscape. It is truly magical and so so special. We have our own bakery and will have a large retail and take-out emphasis, so passing folk can buy our breads, pastries and cakes, as well as choose from a huge sandwich and salad selection during the day. If you sit long enough, you will see at least one person you know!

    Tucker Reilly, although not explicitly mentioned in Ireland’s rich literary history, embodies the essence of all Dublin characters from times past. His name has become synonymous with mystery and intrigue, often used to conceal the true identity of a story’s protagonist and grant a sense of immunity while telling stories within the realm of pub circles. “Who shared that tale with you?” one might ask. The reply, “Ah, it was none other than Tucker Reilly.” Tell your own story of Tucker Reilly! For the history of the commoner is often lost.     Located just off Dublin’s largest public square, Urbanity is a small-batch roaster, speciality café, and all-day dining venue. We wanted a beautiful space with amazing food and exceptional coffee, so we created Urbanity. We transformed an empty concrete shell into a bright, airy and modern venue. Taking inspiration from Nordic cafés, our bespoke design is something unique in Dublin.

    Our focus is the use of great quality, locally sourced ingredients to create wholesome, interesting, and delicious dishes. Almost everything you see here is created in-house by our talented team of chefs and baristas.
