Tom’s Table @ the Red Cow Moran Hotel
Every detail of the design of this new restaurant has been carefully thought-out. The centrepiece is a family kitchen table and this sets the tone for the whole restaurant: It’s all about conversation, family values, laughter, good food, setting the world to rights and just great fun.
The Red Cow Moran Hotel is a family owned hotel. The founder, Tom Moran, comes from a large family and in his home the kitchen table has always been at the very heart of family life. That table, in his home, inspired this table, in this restaurant and that’s why it is called Tom’s Table. In fact, the original table still sits today in Tom’s family home in Athea, West Limerick. He built it himself as a young apprentice carpenter and to him it represents family, tradition, comfort, community and the pleasures of sharing a good meal and great memories.
The focus from head chef Brian McCarthy and his team is on providing great food sourced as locally as possible with a particular emphasis, fittingly for the Red Cow, on excellent steaks with a signature ‘Bull’ Hayes Irish Hereford ribeye from Limerick just like the great man himself. The menus reflect this open, honest, wholesome, natural family way too. So you’ll find steaks, chicken, salmon, duck, pork, shellfish and seafood, all sourced from producers all over Ireland, known and trusted suppliers. Everything used is seasonal, locally produced and fresh, prepared by hand and cooked to order.
Bright, warm and atmospheric, the materials, wall treatments and finishes used throughout Tom’s Table pay gentle respect to the countryside origins of the hotel owner. Using simple painted brick, classic terracotta and mosaic tiles, along with aged leather and polished wood, there is a sense of the patina of history despite this being a fresh new restaurant concept.
The bright and comfortable space, flooded with light from floor to ceiling windows on two sides, has cosy booths, banquettes and upholstered chairs in rich-toned leather. Comfort and style are equally important, and the room is beautifully lit with golden pools of light from the feature pendant lamps reflected and multiplied by the mirror panels behind the banquettes.
