Celebrity chef Donal Skehan is back with a brand-new cookery series ‘Donal’s Super Food In Minutes’ on RTÉ One sponsored by SPAR.
Kicking off at 8.30pm on Wednesday 6th November, Donal will help viewers get to grips with keeping things healthy in the kitchen without slaving over the oven all day. He’ll give tips and kitchen hacks aplenty providing busy families with real food fast that packs a nutritional punch and delivers on big world flavours.
From one-pan super suppers to “super food” twists on takeaway classics, Donal will create exceptional everyday healthy meals – and all made with no more than ten ingredients and under 30 minutes. Each recipe, some of which are exclusive to this new TV series, also uses streamlined, quick-cooking methods with minimal effort and maximum results that will help you make the most of your time spent in the kitchen.
The series will also see Donal take on a five-minute challenge every episode as he races to get his super food dishes on the dinner table in five minutes flat. In episode one, he rustles up a delicious caramelised banana dessert in this against-the-clock challenge. Meanwhile, he also makes a summer vegetable braised chicken, a crowd-pleasing General Tso’s stir-fry with tofu, a lunchtime saviour – mushroom grain bowl, a simple spice-crusted lamb with a fresh white bean and tomato salad.
This year is Donal’s first year staying in America for Christmas but he is most definitely still on cooking duty. In something a little different, the series will see Donal offer festive options in the kitchen for those in-between days of the holiday season from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day.
In the final episode before Christmas, 18th December, Donal whips up five different dishes that will see you through any unexpected visitors and the inevitable leftovers at that time of year. These take a little longer than the average 30 minutes but the end results are worth it: a mouth-watering spiced duck with figs and ruby spiced rice and glossy soy turkey meatballs. Donal also gives a traditional Christmas dinner item a twist in the five-minute challenge: super sesame brussels sprouts. The winter warming chilli, coconut sweet potato and red lentil soup is a must-try. As it’s Christmas, Donal’s also got a showstopping winter citrus polenta cake with pomegranate and rose mascarpone clouds that is bound to impress.
And the good news is, Donal’s Superfood will be back in January bringing happy food cheer to dreary depressing January!
To add even more excitement to this year’s series, SPAR, who is a long time sponsor of Donal’s cooking shows on RTÉ, is offering two lucky viewers the chance to win a trip to LA. This money-can’t-buy prize will see the winners jetting off to LA for 4 nights where they’ll have the chance to spend a day with Donal checking out lots of foodie hotspots in the City of Angels. Also a mecca for shopping, the lucky winners will get €1000 spending money to make this the trip of a lifetime. The competition will be run on SPAR’s social media platforms, with lots of clues and hints shared in SPAR stores around the country”.
Commenting, SPAR Sales Director Colin Donnelly said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Donal once again for what we expect to be a fantastic show. He has a great likeability factor and has a knack for making delicious food look fun and effortless. The timing of the show will strongly complement the rest of our Christmas activity, particularly our popular TV advert, and we’ve no doubt that it will resonate strongly with our customers in the run up to the festive period.”
